UPDATED 04/21/2012: Hey everyone just wanted to let everyone know I was still here and living! I have had a busy week at work and with my family. So it has taken me some time to get this posted.
But never the less the South Holston Tournament was tough for some and great for others. Unfortunately I was on the side of a tough for some! This was a new lake for me but over all I thought it was and is a good lake. That being said I would like to congratulate Anthony Dillon and Mike Dunn for their victory at South Holston last weekend! They had a six fish limit (5 smallies and one largemouth) that weighed in at 22.19 lbs. They also had the big fish for the tournament that weighed 4.86 lbs. Second place was the team of Don Gamblin and Wayne Armbrister they also had a six fish limit that weighed in at 19.24 lbs. The third place team was the team of Dicky Shepherd and Eric Frazier they had a six fish limit that weighed in at 13.19 lbs. The majority of the fish that was caught was smallies. I think that most or all of the people that participated in the tournament would like to make this a yearly event for the region. So we will have to keep this in mind for next year.
The top five after the second tournament of the year is as follows. In first and representing New River Valley is the team of Dicky Shepherd and Eric Frazier with 193 points, tied for second with 192 points are the teams of Kenny Blankinship and Dwanye Lindsey of Morning Run and the team of Jason and Raymond Ferrell of Big A Mountain. Rounding out the top five teams and tied for forth with 191 points are the teams of Don Gamblin and Wayne Armbrister of Morning Run and the team and defending 2011 champions of Anthony Dillon and Mike Dunn of Morning Run. Take a look at the 2012 standings page for the full results. As it looks right now the 2012 championship is up for grabs so far with three tournaments to go in the 2012 season. Any team in the top ten has a chance to be champions.
The next stop for the 2012 season will be May 19 at Douglas Lake. I hope to see you there! But before that we have the state six man team championship coming up May 5 and 6 at Kerr Res. If you haven't gotten your entry fees and forms in, get them in ASAP!
Last Sunday the region hosted the youth JSQ tournament at Claytor Lake. I hope everyone had a great time! I want to thank Don Gamblin, Wayne Armbrister, Eric Frazier, Rodney Rice, Ed Clayton and William Craft for taking the time to help the kids. All of these men represented Region 4 as boat captians including myself. But the event would not have went off if it wasn't for the remaining boat captians from Region 2 and 5 that came up to Claytor to support the kids for the day. Sorry that I don't have all of their names for this posting. These kids are a blast to have in your boat! You never know what one of them will do or say. It was a great day. Corey Smith of the Region youth club qualified to fish fish the jr. state championship in June. Good luck Corey at the state championship. Like I said it was a blast to have these kids in your boat and watch them and to see how they communicate with each other. I had Corey Smith and Josh McCourt in my boat on Sunday and it was a real pleasure to see them work together.
